Frequently asked questions

Our Markings

We have a wide range of different markings for Electric Vehicle Charging Points including symbols, text, numbers, and line.

All our markings are made from ultra-durable preformed thermoplastic. This material lasts significantly longer than paint, has anti-slip properties, and is suitable for high traffic areas.

  • There are 26 different colours to choose from
  • Complex designs are no problem
  • Thickness is consistent
  • Built-in glass bead promises high slip resistance
  • Pre-cut designs are easy to install with precision
  • UV resistance means colours won’t fade
  • Non-toxic and contains no lead or chromates.

Providing they are installed correctly, thermoplastic markings will last for at least 4 years and this is supported by our 4 year guarantee.

Our preformed thermoplastic has a slip-resistance standard of 65. For initial slip resistance on installation, we recommend sprinkling extra glass bead on top.

You can choose from 26 bold colours for your thermoplastic markings.

Our EV Bay markings start off as a computer-made design, created by our talented in-house graphic designers. Once the design has received approval, the file is sent to our state-of-the-art waterjet cutting machine and the design is accurately CNC cut by an extremely high-pressure water jet. Our warehouse team then assembles the marking pieces and packages it up ready for delivery.

Once the markings have been cut, our warehouse team puts the pieces together, before packaging them up ready for delivery.

Yes, we can. If you have a design in mind that you can’t spot on our website, we can work with you to create your own custom design. Whatever the size or complexity of your project, we’re happy to assist.

Preformed thermoplastic can become more rigid in colder temperatures. When stored or handled in cool conditions, the material may feel less flexible and could be more prone to snapping if bent before installation or handled without care. This is due to the nature of thermoplastic, which softens when warm and hardens when cold.

See install section below for how to handle the material in different conditions.

Installation

If you have experience in road or playground marking, yes! Our EV Bay markings are sent with their own specification sheet, so you’ll know exactly how to mark it out.

We would recommend undertaking some training if you have never installed thermoplastic markings before. If it is not installed correctly, the marking may not properly bond to the surface and won’t last as long. Get in touch with us for advice if you’re unsure.

Follow our simple step-by-step guide below:

  1. Make sure the ground where the new marking is going is clean and free from any debris.
  2. Using a string line and chalk, mark out the design as per the measurements provided on the specification sheet.
  3. Prime the area where the new marking is going and wait for it to dry.
  4. Position the new marking on the surface, making sure it’s exactly as per the specification sheet.
  5. Heat the marking until it is molten and bonded to the surface.
  6. For initial slip resistance, sprinkle additional glass bead over the top.

We’re happy to help and willing to provide useful tips and training to make sure you’ve got all the skills and knowledge you need to install well.

If the surface is less than a year old, you do not need to use primer. On any surface older than a year, primer should be used to help seal the surface and extend the lifespan of the marking.

Our EV Bay markings have a built-in glass bead, which when heated, sinks into the marking to ensure slip resistance throughout its lifespan as it wears. For initial slip resistance, we recommend sprinkling additional glass bead on the marking 15-30 seconds after you’ve finished heating it.

This is not something we would recommend unless there’s not much left of the existing markings and what is there is well worn and hasn’t failed. Otherwise, the new marking will only last as long as the one underneath it.

Existing thermoplastic markings can be reheated and scraped down to a level surface. However, this method is only suitable if you are covering it completely. Our sister company, TPMR Ltd, can remove existing markings professionally using a vapour blasting method, so let us know if this is something you’re interested in.

You should wait a minimum of six to eight weeks before installing thermoplastic markings onto new tarmac. This is particularly important when a smaller stone size is used in the tarmac.

We work closely with a number of thermoplastic marking installers in the UK so please let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

To help prevent damage, boxes should always be kept flat and handled with care — especially in colder weather when the material is more brittle.

To ensure optimal performance, it’s advisable to store the markings in a warmer environment and allow them to reach a workable temperature before installation. Warming the pieces slightly prior to use can help restore flexibility and reduce the risk of breakage.
